There is no single price for a tow in India. Two people towing a car the same distance can be quoted very different amounts, and the reasons are usually sensible once you know what goes into a quote. This guide explains what changes the price so you can compare quotes fairly and avoid surprises at the drop point.
Distance is the biggest factor
A tow is priced mainly by how far the truck has to go. Remember that the truck must also come back: a fair quote counts the return, not only the trip with your vehicle on board. If a quote looks cheap for a long distance, ask whether the return leg is included or added later.
The tow type changes the cost
- Flatbed towing carries the whole vehicle and uses a bigger truck, so it usually costs more than a short under-lift tow. It is also the only safe choice for many automatics, EVs, low and damaged cars.
- Under-lift towing uses a compact wheel-lift truck and suits short moves of cars that roll freely.
- Two-wheeler carriers are priced for bikes and scooters, and heavy recovery for trucks, buses and cranes is priced for the equipment it needs.
Where the vehicle is matters
A car on a highway shoulder is simple. A car in a low basement, a narrow lane or a ditch takes more work, and the fare may reflect it. Say exactly where the vehicle is when you ask for a quote so that the truck sent can do the job.
Tolls, time of day and condition
- Tolls on the route are normally passed through to you.
- Some hours, such as late night, and some areas can carry an adjustment.
- A vehicle that does not roll, steer or go into neutral needs more handling than one that does.
